MONIKA LEA JONES aerial view 36x36 ARTISTS
STATEMENT Oakland's giant freeway interchange, the MacArthur Maze, is a spectacular transportation artery in the San Franicsco Bay Area. The scene is intense with architectural forms arching toward the sky and the sounds of speeding cars and trucks navigating the elevated structure and the space-age clacking of the Bart train coursing through its center. Although many people drive through the maze daily, few understand complexity. Many view it like a laybrinth, inside which one can be lost or completely misdirected. Either fully trapped in traffic or dizzily flying over the city negotiating tight tilting curves.
BIO: Always
seeking to capture that which catches my eye, I utilize various art forms
I have practiced, allowing me to stay free flowing and adaptable to the
message and situation. Inspired by nature and my daily existence and selecting
the techniques best suited for bringing light to the subject. I have completed
seven murals, many paintings, and initiated two linked photography projects
based on the MacAthur Maze and the Port of Oakland. I am seeking to uncover
the common ground and special beauty found in ordinary places like home. PRICES:
